Gartner research finds that BI & Analytics indistry is going through a major transition. Their 2015 quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms reflects the change. Making data analytics more accessible and pervasive to a wide range of business users and use cases is the major goal of companies that are making this transition.
Gartner placed the BI and Analytic vendors based on 13 different capabilities across 3 categories - enable, produce and consume.
What transition the companies are making?
Many organizations investment was in IT-led projects to build enterprise wide reporting solution. Typically, these were highly centralized and strictly monitored. IT team used to author reports which were consumed by large number of business users.
Ask from many business users is to do interactive analysis and insights from advanced analytics without the need of IT and code data science skills. In other words, there is more demand to have pervasive access for data discovery capabilities.
How companies are providing the latest needs?
Many companies are increasingly moving from using the installed base, traditional, IT-centric platforms that are the enterprise standard, to more decentralized data discovery deployments that are now spreading across the enterprise. This will help to make rapid deployments and quick analysis.
There is also increase in integrating traditional reports and analytics to business processes and applications. Further there are efforts to bring complex analytics to be available in traditional BI platforms.
Further, there are efforts and increased demand for self-service capabilities.
